About
The studio of Nimasha Barbara
Handcrafted in Kadawatha, Sri Lanka, Eco Di Barbara was founded by fashion and textile designer Nimasha Barbara.
Nimasha combines textile design, ecology, and material experimentation to create unique and thoughtful fabrics using methods like botanical dyeing, eco-printing, upcycling, and plant-based processes, all influenced by nature and time.
Drawing inspiration from Sri Lanka's rich flora, cultural traditions, landscapes, and everyday materials, the studio has developed a distinctive botanical palette that captures ephemeral natural colors and transforms them into lasting textile expressions.
Each piece is created slowly and intentionally through hands-on processes that embrace variation, imperfection, and material transformation as part of the final work. Rather than mass production, the practice focuses on small-batch and one-of-one textile pieces that carry the traces of their making.
In 2021, Nimasha Barbara received the IDA Award for the Deconstructed Vintage collection, recognized for its innovative approach to sustainable fashion and contemporary textile design.
Eco Di Barbara continues to explore how natural materials, traditional knowledge, and contemporary design can come together to create textiles that feel both rooted and evolving.
